The Best New York Pizza – Everyone Must Try

New York pizza

NYC is a hub of for hundreds of pizza restaurants, pizzerias and slice joints that keep on serving iconic pizza recipes to all tourists and local residents alike. New York pizza is basically made up of Neapolitan-style pizza. The unique recipe of this pizza was brought to NYC and America by Italian immigrants in the early 1900s. Note that most “classic” NY pizza is mainly made up of slices that are wide and large with a thin crust – it can be folded but is still very crispy. The pizza is finely topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce with few extra toppings to enhance the taste. However, the pizza without any additional toppings is called cheese, regular or plain.

What makes New York pizza special?

New York pizza is commonly sold by the slice or as a whole pie  – that can be quite large, somewhere around 18 inches. It is cut into eight slices; however, some customers also prefer to buy a slice and eat it on the go by just folding it vertically. NY style pizza is cooked in a specially designed coal-fired oven, but few new places have also started using regular gas ovens for this purpose.

NY pizza is made up of few traditional ingredients – olive oil and sugar are mixed with the high-gluten bread flour, and then some water and yeast are added to it to create a dough. The seasoned sauce is further made up of garlic, canned tomatoes, olive oil, salt, sugar and herbs such as crushed red pepper, basil, and oregano.
